Words of Wisdom From the Scarecrow
Today is another gloomy day. Chalk it up to another week of rain and wind. Simply put, it is spring in Chicago where one day is warm and the next is cold with wind. Bryan and the kids wanted to watch a movie to escape the weather. We usually do not watch tv during the day, but today was different because we needed something new. The classic movie, The Wizard of Oz, distracted us this afternoon. The Scarecrow, Dorothy, Lion and Tin Man each entertained us with their wisdom. Revin Roger was scared of the witch and wizard. Wild Regan laughed at the monkey/solider squad. Amazing Ann asked if she could be Dorothy and the dog. Ugg, I fear her Halloween costume.
I was struck by one line the Scarecrow said. “But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking… don’t they?” Interesting huh? Very appropriate words for today’s political climate.
The line not only applies to politics, but also when adults lie. Think about it. Most adults who are in the middle of lie, over explain a story. The giant fish tale comes to mind.
Another example is when companies explain the benefits of their product. A good product needs little copy to express the features and benefits. I have yet to find a good As Seen on TV product. The commercials do a lot of talking for simple products. Makes one wonder.
Guess that is the old fashioned marketer in me. The basics of marketing still apply no matter how fast technology and products evolve.
Do you agree with the Scarecrow?
